01 Aug Eat Right, Burn More
Metabolism is the sum of what each of your body’s systems do to burn calories and turn food into energy. Control of food intake starts in the brain and signals the body to store and burn intake with the help of your hormones, leptin and ghrelin; as well as, your insulin.
Controlling food intake with the right choices at the right times of the day is the key to managing your body for optimum health.
Eating three well-balanced meals and one to two small snacks during the day will help keep you from excess night time snacking; night time is when weight gain happens the most as we are not at our peak metabolizing point then.
Balanced meals literally means pairing your macronutrients properly (refer to your plan package to learn more). Snacks in between must be nutrient-dense rather than empty calories or you’re going to end up with your head in the fridge at night.
Try this fun snack to keep you on track; it’s easy to make and have on hand (and it’s delicious!).
2 Cups Yogurt
2 Drops of Vanilla extract or 1 Teaspoon of Honey (always warm honey before adding)
1/4 Cup Fresh or Dried Fruit
1/4 Cup Chopped Walnuts or Slivered Almonds (optional for added protein)
Healthy choice or homemade Granola, handful (optional for added grain)
Line a 12 cup muffin pan with small paper cupcake liners. Spoon the yogurt into a mixing bowl, add the extract or honey & fruit choice and stir well. Spoon the mixture into the paper liners and freeze. Top with choice of nuts and/or granola if desired and serve. Makes 12 Servings.
